May 9, 2014 This post is in response to a Huffington Post Article by Adam Pertman and Susan Smith of the Donaldson Adoption Institute
We at Adoption Associates created our private therapy practice in the Boston area 15 years ago because we saw a huge need for families, parents, children, adolescents and adults to talk with professionals who truly understand the profound impact of adoption on all their lives. For the very reasons that Adam Pertman and Susan Smith states so eloquently in this article, we could not agree more that the need for Post Adoption, as well as pre-adoption counseling and guidance, is of critical importance. Our experience over the years along with that of our colleagues in this developing field, has reinforced over and over just how needed and important these services are. We constantly hear from family members what a relief it is to find adoption sensitive therapists who truly “get it”. And time has certainly proven this to be true, as we have grown from a practice of 3 to a larger group of 7 therapists. We provide a range of services including individual support, traditional talk therapy, play therapy, expressive arts therapy, family therapy and group therapy. Our clients find strength in coping with challenging situations and leading successful lives.
